Rare Bird was a progressive rock band formed in London, England, in late 1969. The band was established on the principle of keyboard-dominated progressive rock, deliberately avoiding the use of guitars. Their self-titled debut album received critical acclaim, although the band released a total of five albums that did not achieve commercial success. Despite this, their single "Sympathy" sold over a million copies worldwide and topped charts in France and Italy. Unfortunately, Rare Bird dissolved in early 1975, largely due to a lack of recognition in their home country. The band's line-up evolved over the years. In 1969, the group consisted of Graham Field (organ), Dave Kaffinetti (electric piano), Steve Gould (bass guitar and vocals), and Mark Ashton (drums). By 1971, the line-up included Dave Kaffinetti, Steve Gould, Fred Kelly (drums), Andy "Ced" Curtis (guitar), and Paul Karas (bass). In 1973, the members were Dave Kaffinetti, Steve Gould, Fred Kelly, Andy "Ced" Curtis, and Nic Potter (bass). The final line-up in 1974 featured Dave Kaffinetti, Steve Gould, Fred Kelly, Andy "Ced" Curtis, and Andy Rae (bass).
