Ras Shorty I, born as Garfield Blackman in 1940 in Trinidad and Tobago, was a prominent musician and the creator of the musical genre known as "Jamoo." He was influential in the development of Soca music, blending traditional calypso with various other musical styles. Ras Shorty I was known for his spiritual and socially conscious lyrics, and he played a significant role in popularizing Caribbean music both locally and internationally. He passed away in 2000, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire artists in the region.
