Ras Kass, born John Austin in 1973 in Carson, California, is a West Coast MC raised in Watts. A history and socio-political student, he majored in philosophy at USC. He was an original founding member of Patchwerk Records in Atlanta, GA, and maintains close ties with Patchwerk Studios, which is co-owned and operated by Curtis Daniel III. .
