Ray Camacho & The Teardrops were a prominent band from Fresno, California, formed in 1960 by trumpeter and bandleader Ray Camacho. Initially a nonet, the group blended rock, soul, Mexican regional music, cumbias, covers, and original songs, quickly becoming a sought-after live act. The original lineup featured Camacho on trumpet and vocals, arranger Manuel Palafox on keyboards and saxophone, guitarist Mingo Cervantes, and conguero Enrique Mendoza. They gained popularity by performing at high school dances and regional fairs, known for their energetic performances. The band played extensively in the East Bay Area, opening for notable acts like Santana and Tower of Power, and toured across the American Southwest, particularly in Arizona and Texas. Their first single, "Volveras"/"El Pollo de Carlitos," was released by Copper State in 1968, followed by "She's So Good to Me"/"Sunshine Superman" on California Artists in 1969. Their self-titled debut album, credited to the International Ray Camacho & the Teardrops, was released by California Artists in 1970, shortly followed by another album from McAllen, Texas' Falcon.
