Ray Chaney was born on January 10, 1928, and passed away on August 24, 1972. In 1953, he formed his band, the Ranch Hands, and began performing at the Sunset Ballroom in Fort Worth, Texas. The band also had a 25-minute radio show on KXOL, a country station at that time. The members of the group in 1953 included Ray Chaney on lead guitar, Johnny Strawn and Bob Hittson on fiddle, Jack Guhl on steel guitar, Ray Johnson on drums, Hallis Nord on bass, Johnny Crawford on saxophone, and Bill Nelson on piano.
