Sir Ray Davies was born on June 21, 1944, in Muswell Hill, London. He is the lead singer of the legendary band The Kinks and is the brother of and uncle of . Ray wrote and produced most of the band's songs, often collaborating with his brother Dave. In 1995, he began touring solo with his Storyteller tour, where he read excerpts from his biography, X-Ray, and performed both old and new songs to narrate his life story. His first solo album was released in February 2006. On December 31, 2016, Davies was awarded a knighthood in the 2017 New Year Honours for his services to the arts.
