Ray Manzarek was an American musician, producer, movie director, and writer, best known as the co-founder and keyboardist of a band from 1965 to 1973, and later from 2001, when the band changed its name. He was born on February 12, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and passed away on May 20, 2013, in Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, Germany, following a prolonged battle with cancer.
