Kathy Westmoreland, born on August 10, 1945, in Texarkana, Arkansas, is an accomplished American singer. Growing up in Abilene, Texas, as the daughter of a professional singer and a professional dancer, she moved to California in 1962 with her siblings, including professional singers Melody and Christie Westmoreland and brother Brent, a professional drummer/singer. Westmoreland, a soprano, began her musical journey early, performing in musical comedies and opera, and traveling with the Metropolitan Opera National Company by the age of eighteen. After returning to California, she joined the singing group The Sandpipers, known for their hit "Guantanamera." She became a sought-after studio session singer, contributing to numerous television shows and working with various artists, including Jimmy Joyce, Ray Conniff, and Johnny Mann. In 1970, Westmoreland was hired as a backup vocalist for Elvis Presley, performing both in the studio and on stage. Presley affectionately referred to her as "the little girl with the beautiful high voice." She continued to perform with him until his death in 1977 and sang at his funeral at his request. In 1987, she published "Elvis and Kathy," which details her experiences with Presley. Westmoreland continues to perform to enthusiastic audiences in various venues and participates in projects, including Dick Dale's HBO special.
