Red Box is a British pop group that was formed in the early 1980s. The original lineup included a vocalist and guitarist, a saxophonist, a keyboardist, a bass guitarist, and a drummer. Initially named Harlequins, the band changed their name to Red Box and released their debut single, "Chenko," in 1983. Shortly after, the band became a duo and shifted to a more synthpop style. In August 1985, they achieved their first UK top 10 hit with the anthem "Lean On Me (Ah-Li-Ayo)," followed by a second hit, "For America," from their ambitious 1986 album, which featured a variety of guest musicians. After facing contractual disputes, Red Box became inactive for a time, with Close being replaced by Alastair Gavin. Their second album suffered from a lack of promotion, leading to the band's official retirement soon after. In 2010, Red Box made a comeback with their third album, released on October 11, 2010. The group is currently led by singer-songwriter Simon Toulson-Clarke and includes a new lineup of backing musicians. Red Box promoted their album "Plenty" through live performances, particularly in Poland, where the songs "The Sign" and "Hurricane" reached number one on the Lista Przebojów Trójki charts, for 5 weeks and 4 weeks respectively.
