The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a funk/alternative rock band formed in 1982 in Los Angeles, California. The current lineup includes Anthony Kiedis on lead vocals and additional guitar, Michael "Flea" Balzary on bass, trumpet, piano, and backing vocals, Chad Smith on drums and percussion, and John Frusciante on lead guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals. The band has seen various members come and go, with Kiedis and Flea being the only constant members since its inception. Notable former members include Hillel Slovak, Jack Irons, and Dave Navarro, among others. The band has had multiple periods of activity and hiatus, showcasing a dynamic evolution in their music and lineup over the decades.
