Red Mecca is a Swedish darkwave and indie band formed in 1997. After a decade of recording material without releasing it, the band resumed live performances in 2010, featuring musical guests and projected films. In 2013, Frida Madeleine became a permanent member, and in the fall of 2014, they released their first album as a duo, titled "Massproduktion," with both members contributing to the material. The duo gained recognition for their 2014 full-length album "Covered With Rain," which was highlighted by Gaffa and Release Magazine as one of the year's most important releases. They describe their music as straddling the line between post-rock and electronica. In 2016, they released the album "Electricity," which achieved sixth place in kritiker.se's summary of February's releases and won the 2017 Manifest Prize for the best album in the synth genre. Their third album, "I See Darkness in You," was released in 2018 and was nominated for album of the year at the Manifestgalan. Later that year, Frida Madeleine left the project to form the duo Kitka with Fredrik Hast from The Confusions, and Susanne Jonsson joined as a new member, marking the beginning of a new creative phase.
