Bill Nelson's Red Noise was formed as a follow-up to his previous band, Be Bop Deluxe, marking a new start and direction for the artist. The band was active throughout 1979 and performed a UK tour in March of that year. However, by 1980, Red Noise had disintegrated, leading to the beginning of Nelson's solo career. Although Bill's second solo album was intended to be Red Noise's second LP, the band was dropped by EMI before its release. As EMI owned the tapes, Nelson was unable to release the album until 1981.
