Renato is a Panamanian reggae singer, recognized as one of the first artists in Spanish reggae from Panama to achieve national and international fame in the mid-1980s. Born in 1961 and raised in the Canal Zone, specifically in Pedro Miguel on the Pacific side, Renato launched his professional career in 1987 with the song “Lo Que El D.E.N.I. Puede Hacer,” a cover of "Babylon Boops" by Lloyd Llovindeer. However, it was his signature song “La Chica de los Ojos Café” (The Brown-Eyed Girl), inspired by the melody of "Don't Run Him Down" by Peter Metro, that brought him widespread success and instant fame in the same year. Tragically, Renato's son, who was also a reggae singer, was shot dead in Calidonia, an urban area near the Bay of Panama, where he was set to perform at a sports league celebration.
