René & Angela were an early-'80s soul duo hailing from Los Angeles, formed in 1977. The duo consisted of René Moore, who was the brother of Rufus' Bobby Watson and had previously played with the Brothers Johnson, and Angela Winbush, who had provided backup vocals for artists such as Dolly Parton, Lenny Williams, and Jean Carn. They achieved their first R&B hit in 1980 while signed to Capitol Records and went on to secure seven additional hits over the next three years. In 1985, they transitioned to Mercury Records, where they released the number one R&B hit "Save Your Love (For #1)" from their album Street Called Desire. The duo continued to enjoy success with three more Top Ten hits, including the number one R&B single "Your Smile" and the number two hit "You Don't Have to Cry," before both members pursued solo careers in the mid-'80s.
