Rene & Angela was an early-'80s soul duo from Los Angeles, formed in 1977. René Moore, who is the brother of Rufus' Bobby Watson, previously played with the Brothers Johnson, while Angela Winbush had provided backup vocals for artists such as Dolly Parton, Lenny Williams, and Jean Carn. The duo achieved their first R&B hit for Capitol Records in 1980 and went on to have seven additional hits over the next three years. In 1985, they transitioned to Mercury Records, where they released the number one R&B hit "Save Your Love (For #1)" from the album Street Called Desire. Over the following year, they scored three more Top Ten hits, including the number one R&B single "Your Smile" and the number two hit "You Don't Have to Cry," before both members pursued solo careers in the mid-'80s.
