Rheingold was a German New Wave group formed by Bodo Staiger (vocals, guitar), Lothar Manteuffel (lyrics), and Brigitte Kunze (keyboard). Before forming Rheingold, Bodo Staiger sang in a band with other musicians. Inspired by Düsseldorf's music scene and fellow German artists, Staiger named the group after the opera of the same name. Lothar Manteuffel wrote the songs, while Brigitte Kunze contributed vocals on their first self-titled LP, released by Weltrekord. The band's most successful single, "Dreiklangsdimensionen," was released in 1980, along with the singles "Fluss" and "Fan Fan Fanatisch." "Fan Fan Fanatisch" appeared on their second album, "R," released in 1982, and was also featured in the soundtrack of the film "The Fan," in which Bodo Staiger played the main role. Rheingold attempted to release English versions of their songs in England and the USA but did not achieve the success they had hoped for. Their final album also failed to gain traction, leading to the band's split, and they never released music under the Rheingold name again. After the breakup, Lothar Manteuffel teamed up with a former Kraftwerk musician to form a new project, while Bodo Staiger worked with an ex-Kraftwerk member and focused on production.
