Ricardo Marrero is a US Latin salsa pianist, arranger, composer, music director, and band leader born in 1951 in New York City. Growing up in Harlem, he was immersed in a musical family and began forming a band while attending LaGuardia High School of Music and Art. His group gained popularity through word of mouth, performing in clubs and at weddings. In the late 1960s, Marrero recorded a few tracks with a Latin jazz legend and released a single under a different name. In 1975, he established his own label, "Yu Qui Yu Records," and formed a band. That same year, he signed a licensing deal with Don King's label, which led to the re-release of "Babalonia," achieving notable success. However, after three albums, Marrero ended the partnership due to internal conflicts. In the 1980s, he became a founding member of Ruben Blades' renowned ensemble.
