Ricardo Marrerro is a US Latin salsa pianist, arranger, composer, music director, and band leader, born in 1951 in New York City. Growing up in Harlem, he was immersed in a musical environment. He began forming a band while attending LaGuardia High School of Music and Art, and through word of mouth, the group gained recognition, performing in clubs and at weddings. In the late 1960s, Marrero recorded a few tracks with a Latin jazz legend and released a single under a different name. In 1975, he founded his own label, "Yu Qui Yu Records," and an ensemble. That same year, he signed a licensing deal with Don King’s label, which led to the successful re-release of "Babalonia." However, after three albums, Marrero dissolved the partnership due to internal conflicts. In the 1980s, he became a founding member of Ruben Blades' renowned and successful outfit.
