Ricardo Ray and Bobby Cruz, sometimes known as the "Reyes de la Salsa" or "Los Embajadores de la Salsa," formed their duo in New York in 1963. Both of Puerto Rican origin, they played a significant role in naming the musical movement known as Salsa. During an interview on a Venezuelan radio station, when asked how they referred to their musical blend, Richie Ray jokingly replied "Ketchup!" before announcing it as "Salsa." This name quickly gained popularity among fans, who began to shout "Salsa!" at their performances. The term spread through Venezuelan airwaves, and record labels like Discomoda's DCM POP sublabel and Palacios began labeling their music as Salsa. Upon returning to Venezuela, they were celebrated as "The Ambassadors of Salsa," having inspired younger generations with their music. They are also known as Richie & Bobby.
