Richard Swift was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and short-film maker, born on March 16, 1977, in California, USA. He passed away on July 3, 2018, in Tacoma, Washington. Swift was the founder and owner of a recording studio in Oregon, where he worked as a recording engineer and producer for various artists, including Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats and Cayucas. Swift's lo-fi, sepia-toned musical style drew influences from notable figures such as Bob Dylan and early-'70s dub acts like the Congos and Lee Perry. He released six albums and was known for his self-taught musical abilities, often playing all instruments on the albums he produced. His work with Secretly Canadian Records and Polydor UK, along with the cult hit “Lady Luck,” established him as a semi-legend in the music community. Beloved by fellow musicians for his talent, Swift was in high demand. He collaborated with James Mercer of The Shins and was called upon by the Black Keys for bass duties. After touring, he and Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach formed The Arcs, releasing their debut album in 2015.
