Richard Youngs is a long-running UK experimental musician, born on May 29, 1966, in Cambridge. Based in Glasgow since the early 1990s, he has a prolific and diverse output, beginning with his first solo album, Advent, released in 1990. Youngs is known for his extensive back catalogue, which includes numerous collaborations. He plays a variety of instruments, with the guitar being his primary choice, but he also utilizes instruments such as the shakuhachi, accordion, theremin, dulcimer, a home-made synthesizer, and even a motorway bridge. Notably, he released an album that was entirely a cappella. For many years, Youngs' live performances were infrequent and primarily took place in Glasgow, as he found live performance to be "incredibly nerve-racking." However, he has performed more regularly in recent years, including a tour of New Zealand in 2010 and a UK tour in support of Damon and Naomi in 2011. Many of his recent shows have focused on vocal performances, inspired by his experience at a laptop concert, which led him to decide to sing.
