Rick Holmes, born Richard Arthur Holmes, Jr. on April 21, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee, was a notable radio personality and an influential figure in the music industry. He began his career at KBCA-FM, where he worked from 1967 to 1976, collaborating with various personalities including Jamin Jai Rich, Tolly Strode, Dennis Smith, and Sam Fields. As a mentor to young DJs in the 70s, he left a lasting impact on the industry. Holmes hosted the show "Rick's Affair," where he showcased captivating jazz music from both contemporary and historical greats. He played a diverse range of jazz, including Latin and Afro-Cuban influences, and concluded each show with a thought-provoking message: "Red, yellow, black or white, you decide which is right, or which is an illusion." An avid amateur astrologer, he had a keen intuition for music and could predict hits after hearing just a few bars. In addition to his radio career, Rick made appearances as an actor, including a cameo in the acclaimed television show "I Spy." He also worked as a Master of Ceremonies at various venues in Los Angeles and at jazz festivals throughout Southern California.
