Ricky Nelson was born on May 8, 1940, in Teaneck, New Jersey, into a showbiz family. His father, Ozzie, was a bandleader, and his mother, Harriet, was a singer. The family had their own radio show and later a TV show called The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet, where Nelson appeared alongside his brother David. He began his film career at the young age of 7. As a prominent teenage idol in the late 1950s and early 1960s, Nelson achieved remarkable success, earning 9 gold records by 1961. His single "Travelin' Man" became a massive #1 hit that year, selling over 2 million copies, while the flip-side, "Hello, Mary Lou," became his biggest hit, reaching #1 in 32 countries. In April 1963, Nelson married Kristin Harmon, with whom he had a daughter, Tracy, and three sons: Gunner, Matthew, and Sam. The couple later divorced. His career saw a resurgence in 1972 with the release of "Garden Party," which went gold and won a Grammy Award in 1986 for Best Spoken Word Recording. Tragically, on December 31, 1985, Nelson's plane crash-landed near DeKalb, Texas, while en route to a gig in Dallas, resulting in a fire that only the pilot and co-pilot survived. He was posthum
