Rico Rodriguez, born on 17 October 1934 in Havana, Cuba, was a British ska and reggae trombonist raised in Jamaica. He was also known by the names Rico, Reco, or El Reco. Rodriguez learned to play the trombone at the Alpha School and moved to the UK in 1961, where he performed with various British reggae and ska artists. He was a long-time member of a notable orchestra, contributing his trombone skills since the mid-1990s. In recognition of his contributions to music, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) at Buckingham Palace on 12 July 2007. Rico Rodriguez passed away on 4 September 2015 in London, England, at the age of 80.
