Ride is an English rock band formed in Oxford in 1988. They gained recognition for their unique wall of sound characterized by massive, trembling distortion and a simpler, more direct melodic songwriting approach. Their loud, droning neo-psychedelia was labeled "shoegazing" by the British press, as the band members often focused on their guitar effects pedals during performances. After releasing their 1992 album "Going Blank Again," Ride moved away from shoegazing with the 1994 album "Carnival Of Light," which drew inspiration from 1960s and 70s bands. However, the album received a lukewarm response from critics and fans, leading to the release of one more album in a similar retro/classic rock style, "Tarantula," in 1996. Following this, the band broke up due to internal tensions regarding direction and songwriting leadership. Two decades later, they reformed amicably and have since released three more well-regarded full-length albums, which are seen as a return to form.
