Riz Ortolani was an Italian composer, arranger, and conductor, born on March 25, 1926, in Pesaro, Marche, Italy. He passed away on January 23, 2014, in Rome, Lazio, Italy. Ortolani was married to a singer and actress. In the 1950s, he founded his own jazz band, inspired by Stan Kenton's innovative style and sophisticated sonority. In 1962, he collaborated with Nino Oliviero to create his first soundtrack for the film/documentary "Mondo Cane" (A Dog's Life), directed by Gualtiero Jiacopetti. The theme from this film became a worldwide success through the song "More," which earned a Grammy Award for "Best Instrumental Theme." Throughout his career, Ortolani scored over 200 movies, with notable works including "O' Cangaceiro" (1970), "Il Sorpasso" (The Easy Life) (1962), "Danza Macabra" (1964), "Africa Addio" (Farewell To Africa) (1966), "Addio Zio Tom" (Goodbye Uncle Tom) (1971), "Sette Orchidee Macchiate di Rosso" (1972), "Io Ho Paura" (1977), and "Cannibal Holocaust" (1980).
