Robbie Basho was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist, born on August 31, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland. Originally named David Robinson, he changed his name around 1959, inspired by the Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō. Basho specialized in the acoustic steel string guitar, often incorporating Eastern modes and scales into his music. He passed away unexpectedly in an accident on February 28, 1986, in Berkeley, California, at the age of 45. In October 2015, a documentary titled "Voice Of The Eagle (The Enigma Of Robbie Basho)" premiered in London, directed by an unnamed filmmaker.
