He is the founder and member of the Mandel Quartet and gained national recognition as a finalist in a TV talent show in 1977. As a qualified musical instrument maker, he received a scholarship from the German Music Council to study instrument restoration in Nuremberg. He has released 15 musical recordings and authored four books on musical instruments, two of which have been translated into English.
