Robert Rutman (b. May 15, 1931, Berlin – d. June 1, 2021, Berlin) was a German-American visual artist, musician, composer, and instrument builder. He received his education in England and emigrated to the United States in 1951. Rutman lived in Mexico from 1958 to 1962, after which he opened the "A Fly Can't Bird But a Bird Can Fly" gallery in Greenwich Village. In 1970, he moved to Maine and founded the Central Maine Power Music Company. Later, he relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he established the U.S. Steel Cello Ensemble.
