Rod McKuen (April 29, 1933 – January 29, 2015) was an American singer, songwriter, composer, musician, and poet, born in Oakland, California. He also used the pseudonym Dor for three releases in 1959. Throughout his career, McKuen produced a diverse range of recordings, including popular music, spoken word poetry, film soundtracks, and classical music. He received two Academy Award nominations and one Pulitzer nomination for his compositions. McKuen played a significant role in popularizing the songs of Belgian songwriter Jacques Brel in the English-speaking world. His songs have sold over 100 million recordings globally, and he was one of the best-selling poets in the United States during the late 1960s, with 60 million poetry books sold. His poetry often explores themes of love, nature, and spirituality.
