Rod McKuen was an American singer, songwriter, composer, musician, and poet, born on April 29, 1933, in Oakland, California. He passed away on January 29, 2015, in Beverly Hills, California. Throughout his career, McKuen produced a diverse array of recordings, including popular music, spoken word poetry, film soundtracks, and classical music. He received two Academy Award nominations and one Pulitzer nomination for his musical compositions. McKuen played a significant role in popularizing the songs of Belgian songwriter Jacques Brel in the English-speaking world through his translations and adaptations. His songs have sold over 100 million recordings globally, and he is recognized as one of the best-selling poets in the United States, with 60 million books of his poetry sold.
