Roger Roger was a French composer, arranger, conductor, keyboardist, producer, and engineer, born on August 5, 1911, in Rouen, France. He was the son of Edmond Roger, a well-known operatic conductor, and an opera singer mother, which contributed to his early musical education. His main instrument was the piano, and he also studied harmony and counterpoint. At the age of eighteen, Roger made his professional conducting debut in a Music Hall, after which he transitioned to radio and film, claiming involvement in over 500 film productions throughout his career. He began writing for French films in the late 1930s, starting with documentaries and later moving on to feature films. He worked with various European radio stations and was instrumental in the early programming of French Television. Roger recorded much of his music in Paris and created serious compositions for use in documentaries. From the mid-1950s, he recorded nearly 20 albums of his own compositions for Chappells, which also successfully placed his music in various soap operas in the USA. In the mid-1960s, he established his own studio. His compositions drew comparisons to American composer Leroy Anderson, though they never met. He shared a close friendship and collaboration with Frank Chacksfield, working together on BBC shows and a series for French radio. Roger Roger passed away in Paris on June 12, 1995, at the age of 83.
