Rolando Laserie, also known as El Guapo or El Guapachoso, was a Cuban vocalist born on August 27, 1923, in Mata, Villa Clara. He was known for his performances in boleros, guarachas, son cubano, son montuno, tangos, and bolero son. Laserie learned to play the timpani at the age of 9 and initially balanced his musical career with working as a shoemaker. He performed sporadically as a percussionist in the Municipal Band of Santa Clara and, at the age of 20, began performing with an orchestra. In 1946, he moved to Havana, where he worked as a percussionist in various orchestras and eventually became a timbalero and choir member. Rolando Laserie passed away on November 22, 1998, in Coral Gables.
