Rolando Laserie, also known as El Guapo or El Guapachoso, was a Cuban vocalist born on August 27, 1923, in Mata, Villa Clara. He was known for his performances in various genres, including boleros, guarachas, son cubano, son montuno, tangos, and bolero son. Laserie began learning to play the timpani at the age of 9. In the early stages of his career, he balanced his work as a musician with that of a shoemaker. He performed sporadically as a percussionist with the Municipal Band of Santa Clara, and at the age of 20, he performed with an orchestra. In 1946, he moved to Havana, where he worked as a percussionist and collaborated with different musical groups, eventually becoming a timbalero and choir member. He passed away on November 22, 1998, in Coral Gables.
