Ron Grainer was an Australian television and film composer born on August 11, 1922, in Atherton, Queensland, Australia. He passed away on February 21, 1981, in Cuckfield, Sussex, England. Grainer primarily worked in the UK and is known for writing the theme music for several television shows, including "Maigret" (1960), "Steptoe And Son" (1962-65, 1970-74), "The Prisoner" (1967), and "Edward & Mrs. Simpson" (1978). He is best remembered for composing the iconic "Doctor Who" theme.
