Ron Grainer (August 11, 1922 - February 21, 1981) was an Australian television and film composer born in Atherton, Queensland, Australia. He primarily worked in the UK and is known for writing theme music for various television shows, including "Maigret" (1960), "Steptoe And Son" (1962-65, 1970-74), "The Prisoner" (1967), and "Edward & Mrs. Simpson" (1978). Grainer is best remembered for composing the iconic theme for "Doctor Who."
