Roni Size, born on October 29, 1969, in Bristol, England, is a highly respected figure in the U.K. jungle scene, known for his extensive production work across various labels and projects. As a pioneer of the emerging sound, Size gained significant recognition with his debut album, New Forms, which solidified his status and elevated him above other drum'n'bass producers. Growing up in the Bristolean suburb of St. Andrews to Jamaican immigrant parents, Size was immersed in the local music scene, learning the fundamentals of hip-hop through sounds systems, house parties, and underground clubs. After being expelled from school, he began experimenting with house and reggae production in the late '80s. His musical journey took a pivotal turn when he connected with DJ Krust, Suv, and DJ Die at the 1990 Glastonbury Festival, leading to the formation of his Full Cycle label. Despite facing challenges in the early days of the genre, the crew produced several classics, including Size's "It's a Jazz Thing," Krust's "Jazz Note," and the Reprazent's Reasons for Sharing EP, which was their first release through the major label Talkin' Loud. The success of New Forms in 1997 propelled Size to the forefront of the electronica genre, and his Dope Dragon label continued to thrive, featuring tracks from various artists.
