Ronnie Lane, a former member of the band Faces, left in May 1973 to pursue a solo career and eventually formed his own band, Slim Chance. The lineup included musicians on drums, keyboards, saxophones, guitar, bass, and vocals. After some changes, Robin Lucas and others joined, with a violinist added later. The name 'Slim Chance' originated from the band's difficult financial situation after the breakup of Faces, as Lane felt they had a slim chance of success due to being perceived as drop-outs. He formed Slim Chance in the autumn of 1973 and launched his tented production, the Passin Show, in May 1974.
