Roxanne Shante is an American MC born on March 8, 1970, in the Queensbridge Projects of Queens, New York City. She first gained attention through the Roxanne Wars and rose to prominence in 1984 when she recorded vocals in response to another artist. The "Roxanne Wars" followed her initial success. Her life was dramatized in the 2017 film, Roxanne Roxanne.
