Roy Ayers was an American funk, soul, and jazz vibraphone player, composer, and producer, born on September 10, 1940, in Los Angeles, California. He began his career as a post-bop jazz artist, releasing several albums before his tenure in the 1970s, during which he helped pioneer jazz-funk. Among his hits are "Everybody Loves The Sunshine," "Searching," and "Running Away," as well as collaborations with various artists. In 1980, he founded his own label. He was the father of two children. Ayers passed away on March 4, 2025, in New York.
