Roy Hogsed was born on December 24, 1919, in Flippin, Arkansas, and later moved to San Diego at the start of his music career. He is known for creating one of the most original sounds in post-war country music, incorporating elements of emerging styles like rockabilly and rock & roll. Hogsed's Rainbow Riders Trio featured accordion, guitar, and slapped-bass rhythm, leading to notable hits such as his rendition of "Cocaine Blues." He also achieved success with a larger band format, producing songs like "Snake Dance Boogie," "Let Your Pendulum Swing," and "Ain't a Bump in the Road." His career spanned from 1947, when he recorded his first singles for Coast Records, to 1954, when he released his last record for Capitol. Despite his limited impact on the broader country music scene due to his San Diego location, his music remains an intriguing anomaly. Roy Hogsed passed away on March 13, 1978.
