Roy Montgomery (born 1959) is a composer, guitarist, and lecturer from Christchurch, New Zealand. Known for his mostly instrumental solo works, Montgomery's music incorporates elements of post-rock, lo-fi, folk, and avant-garde experimentation. His signature sound is often described as atmospheric or cinematic, featuring complex layers of chiming, echoing, and droning guitar phrases. He currently serves as the head of the Environmental Management department at Lincoln University in New Zealand. Throughout his career, Montgomery has played in several New Zealand bands since 1980 and has released solo albums on various labels.
