Roy Robert is a soul and blues artist from Greensboro, North Carolina, whose career spans from the 1960s to the 2000s. Growing up in Livingston, Tennessee, he sought a better life than working on the family farm. In 1961, he moved to Greensboro to live with his uncle and discovered a vibrant nightlife and music scene. A pivotal moment in his career occurred while watching R&B singer Jerry Butler perform at the El Rocco Club, where he realized he wanted to be part of the music business. Roy's journey took a significant turn when he began playing guitar for Solomon Burke, known as “The King of Soul.” This experience provided him with valuable insights into the music industry. Throughout his career, Roy has navigated various roles as a sideman and lead singer, performing in studios and on tours, and winning awards in genres ranging from R&B and Beach Music to Country Music. Roy Roberts has been a key figure in the Greensboro music scene, which was an essential part of the Chitin Circuit during the 1960s and 70s. He has also been invited to perform in Europe, sharing his Greensboro-produced hits with fans of “Northern Soul.”
