Roy Wright was a soul artist from Chicago, Illinois, active during the 1950s and 1960s. He began his recording career with the renowned Drexel label, owned by Paul King and Les Caldwell, where he released four singles, including the notable jump blues track "No Haps." In the 1960s, Wright collaborated with Al Benson, recording for his labels Crash, Vick, and Mica, producing several 45s. His music featured tough Chicago sounds, supported by musicians like Bob Lee and Karl Tareton. Over time, Wright's vocal style evolved, becoming more emphatic and gritty as he adapted to the newer soul genre. His standout tracks include "Heartbreak (Awful Day)," "Something’s Wrong," and the powerful "You Changed My Whole Life Around," which showcases a dynamic stop/go arrangement and a passionate vocal performance.
