The Royal Jesters were a musical group from San Antonio, Texas, active from 1958 to 1977. The group originated in 1956 when Mike Pedraza and Enrique “Henry” Hernández Jr., both students at Sidney Lanier High School, formed a band called The Young Ones. Hernández left another group, The Five Angels, to join them. Initially, they were backed by bands like the Reno Bops, and the vocal quintet included Hernández, Pedraza, Bobby Cantú, and Charlie Walker. By 1959, Louie Escalante and Tony Arci had replaced Cantú and Walker. Hernández played trumpet, and Pedraza learned trombone. In early 1962, Pedraza was replaced, and when Lawson left to manage the group, he was succeeded by José Perales, who played bass. Throughout the 1960s, the Royal Jesters released hits such as “My Angel of Love,” “Your Dreamy Eyes,” “Ask Me to Move a Mountain,” and “Is That Good Enough for You” on various record labels. They later established their own labels to produce their music.
