He gained fame in the 1990s through appearances in various television programs, films, and musical albums. Prior to his rise to fame, RuPaul was a prominent figure in the Atlanta and New York City club scenes. He has performed as a man under the name RuPaul Charles in several roles. RuPaul hosted a long-running talk show on VH1 and currently serves as the host of the reality television show "RuPaul's Drag Race."
