Ruffneck is a New Jersey-based house collective known for various aliases. They operated from Montclair, a location that was also utilized by other artists in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The collective collaborated extensively with Yavahn, who was known as a member of the group and later as a solo artist; the alias Yavahn is derived from her middle name, Yvonne. Their most notable collaboration, "Everybody Be Somebody," sampled a New York club classic. Yavahn passed away in October 2003, and the collaborations released on their own label were published posthumously.
