Rui Fernando da Silva Costa, known as Rui Duna, was born in Luena, Moxico, in 1959. He began his musical journey at the age of eight in a church choir and later joined the group Arco Iris, where he performed songs by Roberto Carlos. In 1977, after participating in the armed struggle in Moxico, he sought refuge in Zambia with his family before moving to Portugal. In Portugal, he recorded two albums: Memórias in 1980 and Cá e Lá in 1985. The latter achieved significant success in Angola, reaching number one on the charts, particularly due to the hit song "Any, Any," also known as "Olha a bunda dela."
