Run-DMC is an American hip hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York, founded in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell. Regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip-hop culture, they are also recognized as one of the most famous hip-hop acts of the 1980s. The group played a pioneering role in new-school hip-hop music and was among the first to emphasize the significance of the relationship between the MC and DJ. In 2009, Run-DMC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a Performer.
