Ruth Brown (January 12, 1928 – November 17, 2006) was an American soul, blues, and jazz singer born in Portsmouth, Virginia. She gained prominence in the music industry between 1949 and 1955, with her songs charting for a total of 129 weeks, including five No. 1 hits: "Teardrops from My Eyes" (1950), "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean" (1952), "5-10-15 Hours" (1952), "Mambo Baby" (1954), and "Oh What a Dream" (1954). Ruth Brown was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as a Performer. She passed away due to complications from a stroke and heart attack at a Las Vegas-area hospital.
